Clarence & Lillian (Feb 14, 1936 - Nov 15, 2005) Connelly
Don, Wendy, Chantz, Clarence, Dusti, Leon, Dillon Matt, Skylar, Mikayla, Brody Connelly Angus Ranch is located 6 miles north of Valier, Montana. It is operated by Clarence, Don and Wendy, Leon and Dusti Connelly and all of their kids. Our family run ranching and farming operation currently runs 400 registered cows which are the result of 47 years in the cattle business. The farming involves the raising of spring wheat, malt barley, alfalfa and grass hay. In 1974 with 250 commercial mother cows we started the registered Angus herd with the purchase of 20 bred heifers from Charles DeBoo. These heifers were mostly Pattern of Wye and Revolution breeding. From there 2 bulls we purchased from the GDAR program "Viking 977 GDAR (maternal brother to Rito 054 and Traveler 1148) and Traveler 1114 GDAR" were responsible for producing the top foundation females our cowherd is based on. Our breeding philosophy is centered around the female. We believe in a moderate framed cow that milks heavily, while holding her condition, that can consistently wean off a heavy calf. In our program we place high emphasis on fertility, carcass quality, natural thickness, maternal traits, fast growth and still maintain a light to moderate birth weight. Any cows that do not hold up to our requirements year after year are culled out. These cattle are bred to be problem free for the commercial cow man. A product of our breeding program is CAR Tracker 904, who was the high selling bull of our 2000 production sale. His linebred pedigree includes 3 of the most powerful cow families at Connelly Angus. 904 transmits those genetic traits that help the commercial cowman maximize profits. 904 progeny have that extra capacity and fleshing ability to be very efficient roughage converters. His calving ease, heavy weaning weights, performance, strong maternal and carcass traits and bred in longevity make him a very complete sire. We start calving every year on the 20th of January. The cattle are summered on native dryland pastures in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains from the 1st of June until the 1st of October. We market our cattle through our annual "Genetics for the Long Run" production sale at the ranch, on the last Tuesday of February wher we will offer 130 bulls and 30 heifers. We also consign bulls to Midland bull Test, and Treasure Bull Test. In the fall we sell a select group of registered and commercial bred heifers and cows by private treaty. Although we have many bulls working in registered herds, our main focus is still to produce seedstock that will survive and excel in a commercial environment, with the commercial producer being well received by the feeder and packer. Visitors are always welcome at our ranch and all inquiries will be addressed as soon as possible by either phone or e-mail. Thank you for taking the time to read up on our program, we are very proud to be a part of such a wonderful community of Angus producers! Sincerely, Connelly Angus
